10 Mar 2022

Merseyside giants Liverpool are eyeing an eighth straight win in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) ahead of their home meeting with Italian team Inter Milan in the second leg of their last 16 tie. The Reds are the only team left with a perfect record in the Champions League this season.

Liverpool and Ajax Amsterdam were the only teams with six wins from six games at the end of the group stage before the latter played out a 2-2 draw at the home of Portuguese giants Benfica in the first leg of their last 16 tie.

Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool players started their Champions League campaign this season in one of the toughest groups. Liverpool were drawn in Group B alongside Italian Serie A giants AC Milan, Portuguese outfit FC Porto and Spanish La Liga champions Atletico Madrid. The Reds started their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 home win over AC Milan thanks to the second half strike from club skipper Jordan Henderson. They went on to win their remaining five group games to make it a perfect group stage campaign.

For the round of 16, Liverpool were given a tricky draw against Italian champions Inter Milan who finished behind Spanish La Liga team Real Madrid in their own group. The Reds have been able to navigate their last 16 tie with Inter Milan well till date.
Liverpool are in control of their Champions League round of 16 tie with Inter Milan after they won the first leg at the San Siro three weeks ago. The Merseyside club recorded a 2-0 win away from home thanks to the late goals from Brazil national team star Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. Inter Milan would be hoping to overturn the deficit when the two teams meet for the second leg on Tuesday.
