Liverpool legend urges Jurgen Klopp to sign Christian Pulisic

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged Reds manager Jurgen Klopp to consider a potential move for Borussia Dortmund Christian Pulisic with the club yet to pursue a big-money replacement for Philippe Coutinho. Pulisic has just 20 months remaining on his existing Borussia Dortmund deal and this has intensified speculation concerning his future after he revealed his dream of playing Premier League football.

In this regard, the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool have already been credited with an interest in the United States international but Aldridge believes the latter should go for the attacker as he offers similar qualities to that of the departed Coutinho, he said on The Liverpool Echo: “Christian Pulisic would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool. I know Borussia Dortmund have said he's not for sale in January but next summer he will only have a year left on his contract.

“I watched him score two goals against us for Dortmund in that pre-season friendly in America and he really impressed me. He's a player Klopp knows all about and he has tried to take him to Liverpool previously. Pulisic has got pace and he would certainly fit our style. With the way he picks the ball up and goes past players, he's a Coutinho-type.”

“Liverpool were hotly on the pursuit of Nabil Fekir to replace Coutinho during the summer“ but the move scuppered at the final hurdle after the Reds had concerns over the player’s fitness record. Thereafter, the Reds sealed a rather surprise move for Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City after triggering the £13.5 release clause on his contract and the action has proved dividends with the Swiss excelling during the opening months of the campaign.

Based on this, the club don’t appear to have the need for another recruit in the New Year and recent reports have suggested that Klopp could wait until the end of the campaign before reshuffling his options. Meanwhile, Dortmund also have no plans of parting ways with Pulisic during mid-season, given they are currently “leading the Bundesliga table“ and looking good value to seriously challenge for the title during the backend of the campaign.
