JOTA HITS 20 LIVERPOOL GOALS

17 Apr 2022

Portuguese international Diogo Jota is up to 20 goals in all competitions after he scored the Liverpool opener during the 2-0 home win over Watford in the league last weekend.

Liverpool came close to conceding the first goal of the game but had goalkeeper Alisson Becker to thank for bailing them out after he denied Watford midfielder JurajKucka. Within seconds, Liverpool took the lead through Jota who applied a headed finish to the cross from England international Joe Gomez who deputised for compatriot Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

Jota was able to take his Premier League tally to 14 goals with the first Liverpool goal against the Hornets thus moving within six goals of teammate Mohamed Salah at the top of the race for the Golden Boot. Salah also featured from the start against the Hornets, but he didn't score before being subbed off for fellow African star Sadio Mane shortly after the hour mark. Portuguese international Jota was also heavily involved in the second goal that sealed the three points for Liverpool at the expense of the Hornets. He was hauled down in the box by Kucka during a corner kick in the final minutes of the match and Liverpool substitute Fabinho stepped up to score the second and final goal of the game.
Liverpool briefly went to the top of the table with the win over Watford, but they were soon back in second place after leaders Manchester City secured a 2-0 away win over Burnley.
Portugal national team star Jota had the opportunity to add to his 20 goals in all competitions when Liverpool travelled to face Portuguese Super League team Benfica in their Champions League quarterfinal first leg clash, but he was unable to add to his tally having come on as a substitute in the second half.
