Gundogan believes Liverpool have been ‘very lucky’ in title push

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan believes Liverpool have rode their luck in the Premier League over the past two months and they are now desperate to win the title. The Merseyside outfit are presently two points ahead of the Citizens on the table but Pep Guardiola’s side have the advantage of a game in hand to make up the deficit.

Speaking to Fanatik, the Germany international said that the Reds have been riding their luck in the past few months and this has kept them within the title race. He added that the Citizens still remain favourites to retain the English crown and he is confident that the club can win the remaining six games of the league campaign.

He said: “Liverpool are desperate to be champions. “They want to win the Premier League more than the Champions League“. But everything is in our hands. I think we have played the better football. We were seven points behind them and then we went ahead of them. If we win our game in hand, we will go past them and be the leaders. We shouldn’t forget that. I think they have been very lucky in the past one or two months. They have scored a lot of late goals recently. Everything is in our hands. If we win “the last six games“ then we will be champions.”

Manchester City are currently two points behind Liverpool at the top of the standings but they have an additional game in hand which gives them the advantage. Nonetheless, they cannot be over-confident over the title prospects, considering they have tricky games against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United before the season concludes. Elsewhere, the club are still going for the quadruple. They are scheduled to face Tottenham in the home leg of the Champions League quarter final next week where they need to overcome a 1-0 deficit.
